"It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself."

(Joyce Maynard, via The Artful Parent)

5 years of this amazing adventure of being a mother! It's still the most challenging task of my days. It's a constant exercise of self-discovery, awareness and improvement. It's a roller coaster of emotions and preoccupations, small and big, mundane and existential. I don't know what kind of future awaits us, and that worries me. I don't know if I'm up to the task of preparing her for it, because in one second everything changes, faster and faster, and even us, adults, don't seem to be that prepared to deal with all the challenges life puts in front of us...
But being a mom is also a good dose of contemplation and wonder, for the incredible unique being that, despite everything, I seem to be helping to create. Slowly I'm getting the hang of it, or at least learn to let it flow. I give my best, confident that Love is still the best baggage we can bring with us. Each "mamma I love you!" that I'm gifted with, or each drawing showing her wonderful childish world, is like a sign I'm doing a good job and, in those moments, I manage to breathe deeply and enjoy the trip!
