About June

"I think certain types of processes don’t allow for any variation. If you have to be part of that process, all you can do is transform—or perhaps distort—yourself through that persistent repetition, and make that process a part of your own personality."

(Haruki Murakami, in What I Talk About When I Talk About Running)

June was a beautiful colourful month. But maybe because of this uncertain weather, I've been finding myself anxious lately, as I feel Summer escaping through my fingers. I can sense its fugacity, as if it could suddenly end, or be much shorter than we're expecting. I think maybe this is what people feel in those countries that only have a few months of sunlight in the year,  and where Winters are long and harsh. Maybe that's what plants feel when warm days arrive, making them rush to bloom, spread their seeds, and wither in a record time. This idea of Summer is, in fact, much more than days of vacation, sun and beach. They mean a calm that, only in this time of year, allows me to slow down. It's a whole bunch of moments, rhythms and habits that I know will change, as soon as September arrives (and, with it, Nina going to school for the first time). It's also, deep inside, the still very fresh memory of a so long Winter that ended not that long ago, and the certainty another one will soon follow.
I'm working daily on this subtle, somehow absurd, anxiety, that makes me hold my breath. I still find it hard to accept, let it flow, just be. Maybe what I need is just to be by the sea, something I haven't done for a (too) long time!

Welcome July, my month!
