Nos últimos meses, os meus calendários de pano para criança têm sido um verdadeiro sucesso, e tenho feito tantos que tem sido difícil manter um registo actualizado das múltiplas versões que já fiz. A grande vantagem deste artigo é poder ser totalmente personalizado e adaptado à realidade de cada criança, evoluindo com ela. As possibilidades que esta peça pode oferecer são infinitas.

Já fiz calendários em português, inglês e até em alemão. Já fiz autênticos retratos da família. Há pais que preferem cores garridas e outros que gostam de peças mais neutras. Há quem prefira dividir a semana em duas partes (dia/noite ou manhã/tarde) e quem prefira três (manhã/tarde/noite). Há pais pilotos que gostam que os filhos percebam quando os vão ter em casa (tal como este calendário que foi o primeiro que fiz, já tive mais realidades parecidas). Há quem queira incluir a estação do ano e até mesmo as condições atmosféricas do dia. Há quem me peça etiquetas em branco para depois preencher com a criança. Etiquetas extra podem ser adquiridas mais tarde, à medida que a rotina vai mudando de ano para ano, e todas têm as palavras escritas em baixo para quando a criança começa a aprender a ler. Há quem queira incluir um quadro de rotinas para os mais pequenos aprenderem os ritmos da manhã e do deitar. Nos casos em que o calendário fica com maior quantidade de informação, uma boa opção é guardar as etiquetas em bolsinhas de cores diferentes, ao contrário da fita de velcro, separando-as por categorias, e dando a cada etiqueta a cor correspondente no verso, para assim tornar mais fácil a arrumação por parte da criança.

Este é um artigo que vai sofrendo alterações e melhorias à medida que novos pedidos vão surgindo, e tem sido muito interessante conhecer os ritmos de cada família, perceber como há tantos pontos em comum e também pormenores que tornam cada uma delas única e especial. E, sobretudo, como os pais se tornam tão criativos na hora de ajudar os seus filhos a crescer e a compreender o mundo que os rodeia.

Over the last months, my fabric wall calendars for kids have been a true success, and I've been making so many of them that's been hard to keep an update record of all the versions I've made. The great advantage of this item is that it can be totally personalized and adapted to each child's reality, evolving with her. Possibilities are endless.

I've made calendars in portuguese, english and german. I've done real family portraits. There are parents that prefer bright colors, others want more neutral versions. There are those who'd rather divide the day in two periods (day/night or morning/afternoon), and those who want 3 (morning/afternoon/evening). There are families with a pilot parent that wants their kids to know when they will be back home (like this family that ordered my first calendar, and I have had similar realities). Some parents choose to include seasons of the year or even the weather conditions for the day. There are those that ask for blank tags to be drawn by the kids. And extra tags can be purchased later, as the routines change from year to year, and all of them have the words written below the design, for when the child begins to learn to read. Some want to include a checklist of routines so the kids learn the family morning and night rhythms. When the calendars are more complex and seem overloaded with information, it is a good idea to store the remaining tags in small pockets, rather than along a velcro strip, that are separated by categories and have different colors, as well as the tags back side, making it easier for the child to keep everything organized.

This is a work in progress product that has changed and improved over time, as new and different requests arrive, and it's been very interesting to know more about each family's rhythms, and to realize there are so many points in common, but also details that make each one of them unique and special. Most of all, it's been beautiful to see how parents get creative when it comes to help their children grow and understand the world around them!
